A New Chapter for Light For All
Receiving Recognition for Non-Formal Education in Cambodia
The month of March marked an important milestone for our Education Center in Cambodia.
After months of preparation, documentation, meetings, and collaboration with local education authorities, our center officially received recognition to operate as a nonformal education program through the local District Education Office.
While the certificate itself is meaningful, what it represents is even greater.
It represents trust. It represents partnership. It represents a growing opportunity to serve children and families with greater stability, accountability, and long-term vision.
For many of the children who attend our programs, education happens outside of traditional school hours. They come to our center in the mornings, afternoons and evenings to study English, strengthen literacy skills, build confidence, and participate in activities designed to support both their academic and personal development.
These programs are often described within Cambodia’s education system as “non-formal education” — learning opportunities that take
place outside the standard full-time classroom structure but still play a vital role in a child’s growth and future opportunities.
Receiving official recognition for this work was not simply an administrative process.
It was a reminder that local investment in children matters.
Throughout the application process, our team worked closely with the District Education Office to ensure our programs, facilities, curriculum, and operations aligned with the standards expected for educational programs serving the community.
There were forms to complete, inspections to prepare for, conversations to navigate, and many small details to organize along the way. But through every step, we were reminded of how valuable collaboration between local communities and educational institutions can be.
This milestone strengthens our ability to continue providing safe, structured, and consistent educational support for children in our community.
More importantly, it strengthens the foundation for the future.
We believe education is about far more than academic achievement alone. Every class we teach is also an opportunity to encourage confidence, build relationships, create safe spaces, and remind children that they are deeply valued.
One of the most rewarding parts of this journey has been seeing how excited the students themselves are about the growth of the center. For them, this recognition means their classroom matters.
Their learning matters. Their future matters. As we look ahead, we are incredibly grateful for the support of local leaders, teachers, volunteers, families, and partners who continue walking alongside us. This milestone is not an ending. It is the beginning of a new chapter — one that allows us to serve our community with greater strength, deeper partnership, and renewed hope for the next generation.
